Just so you know how old I am; when I was in school, we didn’t have cell phones and we didn’t have internet.  Most homes had land line phones with rotary dial.  Telephone numbers began with letters called exchange names.  My childhood phone number was MIssion5-3992; that would have been dialed at 645-3992. I can even remember our phone being a party line.  Imagine having to listen for your specific ring to know if the call was for you or your neighbor and picking up the phone to make a call to find your neighbor was already on the line.  If you called and they were on the phone, you got a busy signal and if they were not home it just rang and rang, with no option to leave a message.  On average a letter took at least a week by mail to get across the state. 

Today, if I call to talk to one of my kids or grandkids, they want to know why I didn’t just text them.  I find out what is going on with my family through Facebook or some other form of social media; Twitter, SnapChat, or Instagram just to name a few.  I received more Ecards for my birthday and Christmas than I did snail mail cards.  My how things have changed!

I’m not 100% comfortable with all this nonverbal communication when it comes to my family, but I can certainly see how it has been helpful in our business life.
